Amazing weather for our run tonight, having left Acklington in a hail and thunder storm to then arrive at Wooler in bright sunshine! Perfect and even dry underfoot too.
Thanks to Tim for suggesting the Coldlaw Shoulder 6-mile route. Out of the car park, up the road, let’s be honest, every route in Wooler has an “up” to start… Then left to the foot bridge over the Carey Burn. Up the grassy track onward to the open common moorland before turning down Hell’s Path.
Tripping the light fantastic down to the over grown and pebble-strewn path to the next bridge enroute to Broadstruther.
Aha! Not all the way to Broadstruther though, hanging a quick left to follow the track to Langleeford. Before heading, yes up again, Tim gave a quick pep talk, “it’s a long slog with a false summit then a further slog…” – emboldening stuff!
After skirting round Coldlaw, we dropped into the valley and across Carey Burn. Following upstream before turning right and yes, you guessed it, up the final climb before descending down to the car park.
Brilliant to watch the storm clouds brewing as we entered the last section coming around the farm yard! It certainly added haste to the final km or so.
